Waking the Giants is a celebration of the Victorian volcanic plains through music, art and story. The weekend is inspired by the landscape’s dramatic volcanic cones, its natural, aboriginal and more recent settlement history, and what we have today. Activities will centre around Mount Elephant, the highest volcano on the western plains.

The opening of the postcard art exhibition on Friday 12 October will launch the weekend, the Forum on Saturday morning with Vicki Couzens speaking of aboriginal heritage in art and language, Ruth Pullin on the 1850s artist Eugene von Guerard, Tim Hill the manager of Tiverton, Dundonnell on the reintroduction of Eastern barred bandicoot and quoll, Ian Lewis on the volcanic landscape and Dermot Henry on items from the volcanic plains in Museums Victoria.

The Saturday afternoon is mixed activities for all. The Saturday evening concert with light meal will premiere music from six composers inspired by the volcanic plains.
